CHENNAI: The city police rescued a two-year-old boy, who was given up for adoption by his own mother, and handed him over to his parents on Saturday.Police said Ashwin (2) was given by his mother Sujatha to a couple, Devaki and Venkatesan of Vyasarpadi. Sujatha had allegedly received Rs 10,000 from the couple for her medical treatment.Sujatha, a ‘sundal’ seller had left her husband, Manoj, following a quarrel two months ago, police said. The woman was living with her two kids Dhanush (3) and Ashwin (2) on a pavement in Koyambedu, where she befriended Fathima, a snack seller. Fathima soon began helping her in business, the police said. The mother told Fathima that she wanted to send her kids to an orphanage as she had a heart ailment and was not able to take care of them. Fathima suggested to her that she could give her son to a childless couple whom she knew through her sister Raji.  After handing over the child to them couple, the woman collected Rs 10,000.After two months, when Sujatha patched up with her husband, he questioned her about the child. After Sujatha narrated the incident to him, Manoj lodged a complaint with the police after trying in vain to get back his son. On receiving the complaint from them, a special police team rescued the boy and handed him over to the parents.
