Lucknow: The Agra administration has denied permission to a Tiranga Yatra organised by social activist Shabana Khandelwal in which hundreds of Muslims were supposed to take part.
Members of Muslim community who had gathered to take out the Tiranga Yatra handed over memorandum addressed to the President of India to the Agra administration.
Amid chants of ‘Hindustan Zindabad’ and ‘Madre Watan Zindabad’, the Tiranga Yatra was stopped by the police at Shaheed Smarak due to the absence of a permission.
In the memorandum, they demanded that raising obscene chants and slogans against Muslims should be brought under the category of crime and to keep religion away from politics. “Atrocities on Muslims in the name of nationalism should be stopped and so should the debate on Vande Matram,” it said.
Upset over allegations of not respecting the national flag, Agra’s Muslim community had decided to take out a Tiranga Yatra. Khandelwal, who was pained by the recent Kasganj communal clashes, said such incidents are shameful for the society and Indian Muslims are patriots and are committed to the nation.
A few days ago, the district administration didn’t give permission to Vishwa Hindu Parishad for a Tiranga Yatra in the city.
