AMU Teachers Association to oppose Mulayam's visit in the campus
Aligarh Muslim University Teachers Association on Saturday announced they would oppose a proposed visit of SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav to the varsity, alleging his party had failed to mete out justice to Muzaffarnagar riot victims.

Aligarh Muslim University Teachers Association on Saturday announced they would oppose a proposed visit of SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav to the varsity, alleging his party had failed to mete out justice to Muzaffarnagar riot victims.

The Samajwadi Party supremo has been invited to address a seminar on February 24 organised by Sir Syed Movement, a social group of some alumni of the institution.

The AMUTA took the decision at a late night meeting on Friday in its executive committee.

AMU students on Saturday also took out a procession at the campus to protest against the SP supremo's scheduled visit.

In a memorandum to the university authorities they demanded that Mulayam should not be welcomed at the campus since his party's government in the state was directly responsible for the recent Muzzafarnagar communal riots and had failed to mete out justice to the riot victims.

The memorandum further urged the AMU Vice-Chancellor not to allow any politician to visit the campus in the run up to the parliamentary polls.

Earlier, the AMUTA passed a resolution last night stating that Teachers would oppose Mulayam's entry to the campus because of his party's lapses in controlling the riots which led to displacement of more than 50,000 people in and around Muzzafarnagar.

The resolution stated that Mulayam had rubbed salt in the wounds of thousands of victims by abandoning their responsibility in providing relief to riot victims and later stating that there were no victims staying in relief camps and those who where staying were conspirators belonging Congress and the BJP.

AMUTA secretary told reporters on Saturday that what has really shocked them was that the Akhilesh Yadav government has miserably failed to take action against dozens of people who have been accused of murder and mass rape.
