Andari Banduvaya: Fresh, but too preachy
Andari Banduvaya: Fresh, but too preachy
The story is new but the movie fails to pack a punch

Finally, a whiff of fresh air! For once it is not the typical story of the guy falling in love with the girl (and vice versa) and then both trying to convince their parents for the rest of the story.

Thankfully it’s also not about this guy who wants to protect the society from the anti-social elements and hits them so hard that they keep spiraling in the sky.

Director Chandra Siddhartha’s Andari Banduvaya talks about the human values and morals in today’s society that are probably diminishing at a faster rate than the tigers in the country.

Nandu (Sharvanand) who is from a small village comes to the city in search of livelihood and joins Aircel. Padma (Padmapriya) also works in the same company. Nandu is a guy who believes in helping others around him and does anything to help the needy. Padma on the other hand, believes in saving every single penny for her family, which consists of her mother and two unmarried sisters.

Nandu moves in as a tenant in Padma’s house which paves the way for both of them to know each other better. Padma learns that Nandu has inherited the goodness from his father (Naresh), who does anything and everything for his village. She starts liking Nandu who already has a soft corner for her.

Just as we wait for either of them to confess their feelings, Padma’s cousin comes from the US and decides to marry her. How Nandu and Padma tackle this situation and come together forms the rest of the story.

This is a completely different role for Sharvanand from his previous release Prasthanam and he does justice to it. He seems to be choosing the right roles and is getting better with every movie. Padmapriya is good in a role that has a lot of scope to perform. The director should be appreciated for choosing her instead of the regular fair and slim girls from Mumbai. Naresh is excellent in the role of Nandu’s father.

The situational comedy scenes between Nandu, Padma and her cousin are better than the comedy track involving Krishna Bhagawan. The ‘on the face’ brand exposure by Aircel with their tune playing every time Nandu enters his office is irritating.

Music by Anoop Rubens is average.

The movie gets preachy and slow at times with Nandu and his father trying to highlight the importance of being good and helping the needy in almost every scene.

There are a lot of problems that an individual has to face if one decides to be good to everyone every time at the cost of one’s personal ambitions. Situations like these which would have made the movie more realistic are missing and at times one is left to wonder if such generosity and goodness would be limited to the screen. This is where the movie fails to pack a punch.

Director Chandra Siddhartha’s Andari Bandhuvaya is a sincere attempt to highlight the importance of human values in today’s society. Go for it if you are really tired of the clichéd love stories and the regular dishum-dishum films happening all around Tollywood. If you are not, you are better off waiting for next week’s movie releases.
