Machilipatnam: As many as 27 inmates of a government-run girls' hostel at Guduru village in Krishna district on Monday fell ill after consuming food at the facility, officials said.

"The 27 inmates of the girls hostel at Guduru started complaining of loose motions and stomach upset since morning after having dinner (last night)," Guduru tehsildar BLN Rajkumari told PTI.

They were admitted to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Guduru, a medical official said, adding the condition of all the girls is stable and they are out of danger now.

Prima facie, contamination of food is the reason, the official added. Andhra Pradesh ministers D Umamheswara Rao, K Ravindra and local MLA Kagita Venkatarao visited the hostel.
