Anoushka Shankar unwell, to be operated in USA
Anoushka's fans worry why there is no official word on what ails her.

Encinitas (California): Anoushka Shankar, the daughter of legendary sitar virtuoso Ravi Shankar and a noted sitar player in her own right, is to go undergo a major surgery in a US hospital, her family sources have said.

The family has refused to comment on what ails the budding musician who is a disciple of her sitar maestro father.

The sitar player, who is the half-sister of 2002 Grammy Award winner Norah Jones, was admitted to Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas in California near the Shankars' residence on Thursday.

Sources have not elaborated on what actually happened to her.

27-year-old Anoushka has accompanied her 88-year-old father on stage since 1995.

Anoushka returned to Encinitas after a concert with her father at the Salle Pleyel in Paris September 1-2. Her health has warranted attention thereafter.

While Norah Jones may have bagged a Grammy on her debut album 'Come away with me', Anoushka has been a promising talent hinting that sh may be just as successful and famous as Pandit Ravi Shankar himself.

Pandit Ravi Shankar is credited with making Indian music popular in the West. His eclectic sound is often mixed into pop songs in the west and it is also well known that he taught the late George Harrison to play the sitar in the 1960s.
