PARADIP: The 31 persons of Gobindpur, whose betel vines were demolished by land acquisition officials in the last two days, rebuilt the vines on Sunday and decided not to accept any compensation from the State Government. A total of 37 betel vines were demolished at Gobindpur - considered the epicentre of anti-Posco activities - since Friday and a compensation of Rs 8.25 lakh was disbursed to six of them. Some of them had on Saturday sought police protection alleging that they were assaulted by anti-Posco activists for agreeing to demolish the betel vines for the Posco project.Similarly, the Posco Pratirodha Sangram Samiti activists have decided to intensify their agitation against ‘forcible’ land acquisition. Though the administration has suspended the land acquisition till June 17 for Raja festival, the PPSS activists including women and children continued their human barricade at the main entry point of the village. Hundreds of agitators remained prostrated on the ground to prevent entry of government representatives.  Later in the day, PPSS leader Abhaya Sahu conducted a preparatory meeting where he announced that State and national leaders from CPI, CPM, Forward Bloc, RJD, Samajwadi Party and Jan Andolan and other anti-displacement leaders from across the country would participate in the agitation on June 17.Meanwhile, UAC president Anadi Rout has criticised administration for not fulfilling their demands regarding provision of work to the local  contractors. In protest, they stopped sand levelling. Ersama BDO Murlidhar Swain has clarified that local contractors have no special class licence so the work had been given to special class contractor.
