For those with a penchant for authentic hand spun khadi, the Khadi mela at Gandhi Bhavan is a good opportunity to make your pick. Light-weight silk saris, cotton shirts and kurtas are flying off the shelf this season along with other handloom products.
The silk saris are available between a price range of Rs 1000 and Rs 4000. Refreshing colour combinations and designs adorn the sari collection. If the price is slightly intimidating, the shirts sporting the typical khadi look will let you save your pocket. With a price tag starting at Rs 250, you can either pick regular formals or kurtas or even modestly embroidered party wear khadi shirts for a slightly higher price.
There is also a limited stock of churidar materials. You will want to pick them for the lovely duppattas with glass work and pretty embroidery.
Cotton mattresses and pillows are on display and there is a wide variety of sizes to choose from. Leather shoes, wallets, rudrakshas, figurines in sandal wood and other exotic timber varieties are also showcased.
A whole range of cane furniture is lined up at the pavilion. Sofa sets, tepoys, chairs, swings and much more in cane look alluring. A few pieces of steel furniture also figure among these. Pottery is also a major item on display.
Apart from the handloom products, there are also several ethnic and herbal products like turmeric, hair oil, health supplements and products marketed by Santhigiri Ashram including pickles and curry powders.
Books on Gandhian philosophy, environmental issues etc are available. A rebate of 30 percent is offered on all products.
