NAGERCOIL: Ferry services operated by the Poompuhar Shipping Corporation to Thiruvalluvar statue and Vivekananda rock in Kanyakumari were cancelled for several hours due to rough sea conditions on Monday.S Swarnapandian, Poompuhar Shipping Corporation manager, Kanyakumari, said that due to the rough sea conditions prevailing in the Arabian sea, the ferry services had to be suspended from 8.45 am to 2 pm on Monday. After 2 pm, the services were operated for some time. But as the sea remained rough, the ferry services were cancelled again.“Picking up and dropping passengers in ferry would be difficult in such conditions. Therefore, we suspended the ferry services today,” Swarnapandian said.“During season time, we handle up to 8,000 tourists a day. But now, it’s the off-season period. Hence, the number of tourists was around 3,000,” he added.It may be noted that ferry services were cancelled for some time even on Sunday.
