London: If the Big Brother controversy was about trauma and drama, it was also about what actress Shilpa Shetty gained from it.
While the UK television show made the Indian and British administration sit up and take notice, lucrative offers for television and films now reportedly pour in for Shilpa.
And what’s Shilpa’s gain is certainly her arch rival Jade Goody’s loss. Goody has been accused, along with other participants on the show, of making racist barbs against Shilpa.
After being voted out of the Big Brother house, Goody finds her career in shambles. Her home vandalized, Goody now feels “low, rubbish and disgusted.” And as Goody looks towards India to apologise for bullying Shilpa, she doesn’t find many sympathisers.
Shilpa, on the other hand, has many shoulders to cry on. Even though she has been critisised of bringing it all on herself by taking part in such a show, she has managed to made a mark across Europe, and as her friend Bobby Khan puts it, "Everybody knows Shilpa now."
While her friends and fans speak out their support from India, she already has new-found fans in UK. And for that homely touch, her mother flew to London on Tuesday to wait for her daughter's exit from the Celebrity Big Brother house.
The British press is going gaga over the “six-figure sums" that seem to be falling in Shilpa’s lap following the controversy, and she may have some great offers waiting for her back home as well.
Sources also say that Shilpa had received an offer to write a book, among other projects, while Bobby Khan reported that Goody's agent wants to be Shilpa's agent now.
So that’s Shilpa’s silver lining that seems to be getting bolder everyday.
