BERHAMPUR: A Congress candidate was attacked allegedly by some BJD supporters in Makarjholo village in Hinjili block on Friday night. The sarpanch and samiti member posts of Makarjholo are reserved for SCs.As the news of Congress candidate Nakul Sethi’s nomination for sarpanch post spread, some BJD supporters assaulted and threatened him with dire consequences if he filed papers. On Saturday, Hinjili block Congress leader Padmacharan Sahu informed the State Election Commissioner urging necessary action against the accused.30 nominations filed: On the first day for filing nominations, 30 candidates filed papers for 21 panchayats in Hinjili block. This time women would be contesting over 50 per cent of the total number of seats. Of the 30 nominations, four were for sarpanch post, 18 for ward members and eight for samiti members. Similarly for Aska block 24 nominations, including nine for samiti members, were filed. This block has 27 panchayats and 401 ward members.
