New Delhi: The BJP on Thursday asked Congress President Sonia Gandhi to tell the nation what action she proposed to take against her party MP Govinda for his alleged links with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.
A TV channel had aired a video on Wednesday which showed the actor-turned-politician with Dawood Ibrahim and his gang members at a function in Dubai.
"We would like Sonia Gandhi to tell the nation what action would be taken against Govinda for his relations with India's most wanted man," BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said.
Reminding the Congress chief that even PM Manmohan Singh, during his recent visit to the US and talks with Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf, had raised the issue of Dawood, Javadekar said, "The videotape is a sensational revelation and now action must follow."
He stated that the BJP wanted Govinda to resign as Member of Parliament. The Opposition has also demanded the police should take action against Govinda.
Govinda claims the video is a political conspiracy against him.
Dismissing the charges, Javadekar said, ?It is not the BJP which prepared the tape.?
Govinda was elected to Lok Sabha from Mumbai North in the 2004 elections when he defeated BJP heavyweight and former Minister Ram Naik.
