Bhopal: Ashok posted a message on social media alleging that the state government was in slumber despite the fact that half of the population, women, were protesting against liquor shops daily.
“Has the administration, which shows sensitivity on smaller issues, turned a blind eye on this widespread protest?" he asked.
Ashok, in his Facebook post, requested Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to bring an absolute liquor ban in Madhya Pradesh. According to him, women in the state did not see Chouhan as chief minister but a family member. “So no decision from your side on such a wide issue is perplexing," he added.
“Time and again, you have issued directives for curbing liquor consumption but now it’s time to put blanket ban on liquor," Ashok said, addressing Chouhan.
The BJYM leader minced no words, saying that he would start an agitation on liquor ban after Navratri from his hometown Garhakota. He also hinted that illegal shops were running in connivance with the administration.
It is to be noted that new liquor shops have faced stiff protest from public in Garhakota and at other places including Bhopal, Indore and Gwalior as well. Excise Department is having a tough time finding fresh outlets away from national highways after Supreme Court's order.
Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, a volunteer campaign, floated by former Madhya Pradesh MLA Dr Sunilam among others, too has campaigned across the state for a liquor ban. Congress, too, has dared ruling BJP for bringing about liquor ban in the state time and again.
Reacting to the FB post, Ashok’s father and state minister Gopal Bhargav said that everyone reserves the right to express his views through social media.
