New Delhi: The body of Aas Mohammad has been recovered. His body was found in a sewage treatment plant in Ghaziabad by the municipal authorities
The 12-year-old had fallen into an open manhole in drain near the new bus stand in Ghaziabad at 0900 hrs (IST).
An Army rescue team was deployed to rescue Aas after he fell into the drain on Tuesday morning, but they could not make any headway and suspended their efforts late in the night.
The Ghaziabad municipal corporation workers however, continued the search through the night on Tuesday, checking each manhole, but to no avail. Officials working on the site had said that chances of Aas’ surviving are slim.
Members of the team were reported to have lowered Oxygen cylinders into the drain to avoid Methane poisoning.
The fact that the manhole had been left open for the past three months and it being the second incident of the kind was a clear indicator of the callousness on the of authorities.
The local adminstration has announced a compensation of 50 thousand rupees to the boy's family.
