After demolishing defending champions England in Lucknow, Team India has already jetted off to Mumbai where they are slated to play the upcoming ODI World Cup game against Sri Lanka on November 2.
Before touching down in Mumbai, Indian captain Rohit Sharma was left shocked after witnessing poor air quality at the country’s financial capital.
The India captain clicked a photograph from the flight and shared it on his Instagram story, questioning the air quality of his home city.
“Mumbai, yeh kya ho gaya (Mumbai, what has happened?),” the Indian opener wrote.
The coastal city was hardly visible in the picture as it was covered with a cloud of smog.
Mumbai has been in the headlines owing to its poor air quality for quite some time now. The pollution has become worse over the last two weeks.
As per the data revealed on Tuesday, October 31, the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) in Mumbai is 120, which signifies that the city is “moderately polluted.”
Before Rohit, England batter Joe Root also raised questions about the pollution level in Mumbai ahead of their World Cup fixture against South Africa.
Sharing his experience, Root said that it was “like eating air.”
As far as India’s form in this home World Cup is concerned, the Men in Blue have no doubt dominated the tournament thus far, with the skipper leading from the front.
He was the standout performer for the hosts in the last match against England. When India faced an early collapse in batting, Rohit showed nerves of steel.
The opener played a gritty 87-run knock in 101 balls, helping India reach a worth-fighting total of 229 runs.
Among others, Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul made some crucial contributions as well.
While Surya missed the half-century by just one run, Rahul scored a composed 38 off 58 balls.
Though it looked like an easy assignment for England, the Indian bowling unit had a different plan on their minds.
Liam Livingstone was the only English batter, who could breach the 20-run mark, thanks to Mohammad Shami and Jasprit Bumrah’s lethal bowling.
Both pacers appeared at their devastating best with the new ball, sending off four opposition batters in the first 10 overs.
Shami finished with four wickets while Bumrah got three under his belt.
The Indian spinners also make their presence felt in the low-scoring affair, with Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja taking two and one wickets respectively.
With six back-to-back wins, India are holding onto the top spot on the points table. A victory over Sri Lanka in Wankhede will confirm their berth in the semi-finals.
