There has been a strong outburst of emotions and discontent from every quarter following the ongoing fiasco at the Commonwealth Games. Soon after a pedestrian bridge collapsed at the Games venue, a section of a false ceiling nearby also came down. Since then several Bollywood stars have spoken out loud and clear against the organisers of the CWG.
Shilpa Shetty wrote on Twitter, “Husband is abroad. He was proud to be an Indian till he saw the international news channels condemning India for its CWG crisis. Disgraceful!” She added minutes later, “News is that things are falling apart a week before the Games begin and how!” It was followed by some more, “This could have been a great opportunity to make our country proud, unfortunately CWG hasn’t brought us the pride and honour we thought it would bring. Wake up India!”
Ranvir Shorey in his usual witty self tweeted, “Waiting for something to collapse on one of the government officials who're telling us everything is alright at the CWG. After the bridge, a ceiling has collapsed...Dogs...poop...falling buildings... I'm already enjoying the CWG.”
Celebrity photographer Atul Kasbekar wrote, “Kalmadi ne taxpayers ki jeb maari, duniya ke saamne India ki izzat utaari.”
Asha Bhosle expressed her grief through Twitter too. She wrote, “CWG will also become recipient of the great Indian phrase: Sab Chalta Hai, Chalne Do. Aage Badho Bhai. Idhar Sochne Ka Time Nahi Hai"
Kunal Kapoor may not be making too many public appearances lately but he didn’t hesitate in going public with his opinion on the matter. He tweeted, “CWG...What was supposed to b the nation's pride has turned out be its shame! Actually, it’s silly to expect pride when we are ruled by corrupt, shameless politicos. National pride is the last thing on their minds.” He later added, “Since there are no toilets in place, they should send the Rs 4,000 toilet rolls to Kalmadi and company! A symbol of our gratitude as a nation :)”
Shekhar Kapur asked, “With CWG fiasco, the people of India must confront corruption at such a huge, shameless and arrogant way. Is anyone taking responsibility?”
Rohan Sippy tweeted, “All a misunderstanding. The work order clearly says "two stools" per room at the village. Alas.”
Madhur Bhandarkar added, “I think a dark comedy film titled ‘Games’ is being played in CWG where bridge is collapsing, ceiling coming down...”
Arjun Rampal poured out his grievances on Twitter as he wrote, “70,000 crores spent on CWG, Sensex shoots past 20K, but the poverty line in India stays constant. Is this a democracy or just plain Hypocrisy?”
Another interesting tweet, from a non-filmy person doing the rounds on Twitter, rather asks emphatically, “Is Mahesh Bhatt's 'Crook' a biopic of Suresh Kalmadi?”
