BANGALAORE: Ahead of the crucial Bangalore University (BU) Syndicate meeting scheduled to be held on Wednesday, a 10-member group of Syndicate members, led by Registrar Dr B C Mylarappa, will visit Mangasandra village early on Monday to initiate the remaining construction work of the Postgraduate Centre in Kolar.“The Kolar PG Centre issue is pending for the last one year. I will visit the place personally with Syndicate members. I have also spoken to the contractor Shivaraju about the visit. The deadline to complete the construction is 20 days,” Dr Mylarappa told Express. The purpose of the visit is to inspect the remaining construction work to make sure the centre is ready within this academic year. “We do not want to complicate things further. With about `16 crore already spent, we do not want any further delays for the mere 5 per cent of work remaining,” he further said. He added that Bangalore University Vice-Chancellor Dr N Prabhu Dev had been informed about the visit. “Most of the Syndicate members will visit the centre to scrutinise the construction work of the building and bring it to the notice of the Syndicate. Our aim is to have students resume classes as quickly as possible,” said Dr K B Veda Murthy, one of the Syndicate members visiting Kolar. Commenting on the old contractor continuing with the work, he said: “It is the old contractor who will resume work. A new contractor would have meant double pay and we did not want the old contractor to move court,” he stated. According to sources, delay in the construction of Kolar PG Centre is said to be one of the points on the agenda for Wednesday’s Syndicate meet. VC Dr N Prabhu Dev was unavailable for comment.
