Coimbatore: After a gap of five days, buses, including those of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC), started plying to neighbouring Kerala from and via Coimbatore on Saturday, much to the relief of holiday passengers.

Bus services were cancelled to Kerala from Coimbatore on December 19, following incidents of stone pelting in the neighbouring state on buses from Tamil Nadu over the Mullaperiyar dam dispute between the two states.

TNSTC had cancelled all buses to Palakkad, Guruvayoor and Thrissur in Kerala. The buses coming from other districts going to Kerala via Coimbatore were also asked not to ply for security reasons. Private bus operators had also cancelled service to Kerala from Coimbatore fearing attacks on the vehicles and passengers.

However, considering the extra rush of passengers in view of holidays of Christmas and New Year, it was decided to resume bus service today following discussions between the officials of both the States, official sources said.
