HYDERABAD: Chief electoral officer Bhanwarlal on Thursday ruled out the possibility of postponing the June 12 by-elections to one Lok Sabha and 18 Assembly constituencies in the state saying the law and order situation was under control.There is no scope for putting off the by-elections as law and order situation is under control. Even in Guntur district, things are under control after the arrest of excise minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana,” Bhanwarlal told reporters.The Election Commission was functioning effectively to conduct the bypolls in a peaceful manner, the CEO said. His remarks assume significance in the light of apprehensions expressed by YSR Congress president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy that the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party were conspiring to create a law and order problem in the state to get the byelections postponed.Adequate police forces including large number of Central paramilitary forces will be pressed into service for monitoring law and order situation, he said. NOMINATIONS FILED: On the sixth day of filing of nominations, as many as 78 candidates filed papers for 12 Assembly constituencies and one Lok Sabha seat on Thursday.Three candidates field nominations for Nellore Lok Sabha seat. With this the total nominations have gone up to 208 for assembly seats and nine for Nellore Parliamentary constituency. CASH SEIZED: Since the election code came into force, illegal cash of Rs. 21,85,86,267 has been seized and 1,29,732 litres of illicit liquor sezied, 3,011 persons arrested in 8,885 prohibition cases, 25,557 persons bounded over, 580 non-bailable warrants executed, Bhanwarlal said.COMPLAINTS : A delegation of YSR Congress activists led by PNV Prasad, submitted a memorandum to the chief electoral officer, Bhanwarlal requesting him to direct the Central Bureau of Investigation to postpone the enquiry involving YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to some other date after the bypolls to the 18 Assembly constituencies and one Lok Sabha constituency.
