Candle stir against power cuts

Members of Powerloom Owners and Employees Association on Wednesday held a candle light protest against perennial power cuts in Gudiyattam.

The protestors, led by J Venkatesan, complained that the severe shortage and unscheduled cuts adversely affected the machinery. Party cadre from DMK, MDMK and CPM also participated in the protest.

Elsewhere, the residents of Meenur Kollaimedu village in Gudiyattam held a road blockade on the Gudiyattam- Chemballi Road in Jangalapalli Village demanding the restoration of the transformer in their area.

The transformer here had failed a few days ago due to which the electric motor used by the panchayat to draw water failed to function affecting water supply to the area. As their constant pleas fell on deaf ears, they had to resort to protest, they said.

The police and officials arrived at the scene and promised to take action.
