THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Laughing is not just tickling your funny bone, it is a serious affair too. The group comprising men, women and children, had a whale of time at laughter yoga organised by Trivandrum Laughing Club on Wednesday. The unique yoga practice had a few simple breathing exercises designed for the holistic well-being of mind and body. The group soon burst into hearty laughter imparting total refreshment at the start of the day. Once they started, it became infectious and irresistible. The four-day programme is designed in such a way that variety is brought into the activities on every single day.The classes that began on Wednesday morning had some light exercises to warm up the body which slowly progressed to little laughs. Before starting the steps, there came a ‘warning’ from instructor B S S Manohar that none should forget the duties lying ahead for the day and should stop laughing at the prescribed time. “If you find it difficult to smile initially, you can act. Later it should come right out of the heart,” said the tutor. To begin with, everyone sat cross-legged on the floor and inhaled air by uttering ‘a’ and exhaled it as ‘o’ in a streaming fashion. The inhaling and exhaling then transformed into a jubilant ‘ha ha ha’ and ‘ho ho ho’. It turned a physical exercise when all started to hop with joy while laughing aloud. Then they lay supine, and continued. The instruction was heard again. ‘Relax’. The noisy atmosphere turned silent. Closing their eyes and following the guidelines from the instructor, they let go of their worries and tensions for few minutes. When the class was over, everyone had on their lips a smile of satisfaction. S Mujeeb, a businessman from Vazhayila, felt “happy and comfortable” and free of tensions after completing the exercise. There was also a four-member family. N Krishnakumar, an associate professor at  Government Law College his wife Shiji V, ten-year-old son Manu Krishna and three-year-old daughter Aiswarya agreed that it was a totally refreshing experience for them. The yoga classes, being held from 6.30 am to 7.30 am at Hassan Marikar hall in the city, will conclude on Friday.
