KOCHI: Nair Service Society general secretary G Sukumaran Nair has said that the NSS is the lone organisation which has raised voice for providing separate reservation to economically backward people belonging to the forward caste.     Inaugurating the Nair Mahasammelan of Kochi-Kanayannur Taluk Karayogam in Kochi on Sunday, Nair said that even though Mannathu Padmanabhan had demanded reservation for economically backward people irrespective of their caste, successive governments had turned a blind eye to it.According to Nair, NSS had stood for the welfare of all people in the state. “There are several people who are backward financially and did not get any reservation just because of their caste. NSS has demanded reservation for such people. The National Human Rights Commission has also recommended reservation for them.”Until now Mannathu Padmanabhan was seen just as a leader of the NSS. A section of politicians who earlier criticised his doctrines now call him a social activist who worked for the uplift of people in the state. Now the  government has also honoured him by providing holiday on his birth anniversary. “Even the Left leaders have appreciated contribution of NSS. M A Baby once said the NSS was contributing substantially to the education sector.”The NSS has been maintaining an equi-distance policy with all political parties. “We extend our support to the front which works for the welfare of the Nair community. We support the Congress, CPM and even the BJP. The NSS has no political interest, but we will support those who support our cause. The NSS will start a social services unit and human resources development wing in its taluk Karayogam for creating employment for the Nair women and to resolve family problems among the Nair members.M M Govindan Kutty Master, NSS union president, K N Viswanatha Pillai, treasurer NSS, V Muralidharan Master, Taluk NSS union vice president also spoke on the occasion.
