CHENNAI: Accepting a request from the chairman of Pudukottai municipality, which completes 100 years of its functioning this year, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday announced a special grant of `50 crore to improve infrastructure facilities in the municipality.  A commemorative pillar and arches will be erected to mark the occasion. At the State Assembly, the Chief Minister said Pudukottai Municipality had been created in 1912, and a new district carved out with Pudukottai as its headquarters in 1974. The municipality has grown, from 10.82 sq km at the time of its creation to 21.95 sq km, and has 42 wards. NEW COLLECTOR:  The State government transferred B Maheswari, Collector of Pudukottai district, and appointed V Kalaiarasi, Regional Deputy Commissioner (Central), Corporation of Chennai, as  new Collector. Maheswari will take over as the RDC (Central) of Chennai Corporation.
