Chennai building collapse: Death toll mounts to 33

Chennai: Four days on and rescue operations are still on at the site where an 11-storey building collapsed in Chennai. Death toll has now risen to 33.

Of the many people, mainly workers stuck in the building, 27 people have so far been pulled out of the debris.

NDRF team is heading the evacuation process. Four days on, stench has started emanating from the debris.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has accused the builder of having violated norms, while police has arrested six people including the real estate developer for negligence.

The building was being constructed by a Madurai-based builder.

Officials have also said that the second eleven storey building under construction is unsafe and have cordoned it off.
