NAMAKKAL: With the child marriages issue kicking up a controversy in the state, police have registered five cases against the parents and bridegrooms and special teams have been formed to nab the culprits.According to a senior police officer, based on a complaint lodged by Thirugnanam, the Namakkal Tehsildar, the cases were registered.It may be noted that six child marriages were held in Jambumadai, an underdeveloped hamlet near Namakkal last week. Although the revenue officials claimed that they tried to stop the marriages, the parents and villagers went ahead with their plan to marry off their children who were just below 12 years.Bailnadu and his wife were accused in one case along with the groom Pannerselvam who married Bailnaidu’s daughter Muthulakshmi.In the second case, the accused were Rajanaidu and his wife along with the groom Seenivasan who married Malliaka, the daughter of Rajanaidu, A case was registered against Balusamy and his wife for conducting marriage of their daughter Indhrani to V Saravanan while another case was registered against Ramasamy and his wife who married off their daughter Janaki to Saravanakumar. The grooms also were accused in the cases registered by the Erumaipatti police, the officer said. The fifth case was against Thalamanaidu and his wife along with the groom Saravanan. The victim was Thalamanaidu’s daughter Sukanya. All the five cases were registered under Sec 9, 11 of Child Marriages Prohibition Act (2006), police said.Pravesh Kumar, SP, Namakkal, said, “Two special teams have been formed to nab the culprits”.
