THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The meeting between the City Corporation and contractors here on Monday regarding the payment of arrears to the latter from May 6, 2001 remained inconclusive.The Corporation officials told the meeting that an amount of Rs 1.25 crore will be paid for the pipeline work in connection with the JICA-aided drinking water project and the JNNRUM project. The Corporation will also provide Rs 2.25 crore as maintenance grant and the amounts due to the contractors for works using the own fund of the Corporation.The Corporation will provide the remaining arrears once the amount of Rs 6 crore due from the State Government for JNNRUM and JICA project works and the arrears of Rs 23 crore due to the Corporation as pension reimbursement are received.However, the representatives of contractors refused to accept these offers. They also made it clear that they were going ahead with the strike.Mayor K Chandrika and Deputy Mayor Happykumar attended the meeting.
