Classical fused with Western

CHENNAI: The second day of the Park festival saw a dance performance by the Parijat Desai Dance Company from New York. The five-member crew, comprising American and South Asian dancers, staged two performances — Make Space, and Songs To Live For. The former was about the mudras of Bharathanatyam. The dancers exemplified the classical dance form with contemporary movements. Interpersed with the stable scultptural mudras were the dynamic western movements. The second performance was held with Indian songs in the background. Adding to it, were the excellent slides that kept creating a myriad of pleasant images. Even when the music was stopped and there was silence during the performance, the gestures of the dancers showed that there was still music in the air.
