Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Saturday inaugurated 11 co-education arts and science colleges that are constituents of various universities in the State, through video-conferencing at the Secretariat. She had issued orders for starting these colleges on May 29.

The places in which the new colleges are located are: Edappadi (Salem District), Kanyakumari, Vedasandur (Dindigul), Modakurichi (Erode), Thirumangalam (Madurai), Thiruvottiyur (Tiruvallur), Paramakudi (Ramanathapuram), Kadaiyanallur (Tirunelveli), Aruppukottai (Virudhunagar), Arakkonam (Vellore) and Nagapattinam.

The CM also opened the Madurai Branch of the TN State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and office of the Joint Commissioner of Civil Supplies for Ambattur Zone, besides new buildings for four ration shops in Taramani.

“The building constructed at Ambattur at a cost of Rs 91 lakh will benefit 22 wards of Chennai Corporation, Adayalampet and Ayanapakkam village panchayats, Vanagaram town panchayat and Thiruverkadu municipality.

The Madurai Branch of SCDRC would be useful for the people of 13 southern districts - Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Madurai, Dindigul, Theni, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruchy and Karur - to file their cases in Madurai itself. Meanwhile, the CM also inaugurated seven new buildings for the TANUVAS constructed at different places at a cost of Rs 1.64 crore. Besides, she also laid foundation for new buildings to be constructed at a cost of Rs 3.86 crore.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated four upgraded sub-stations of the TNEB. The sub-stations are located at Srirangam, Pettaivaithalai, Ullikkottai in Tiruvarur District and Pappireddipatti in Dharmapuri District.

The  CM also inaugurated three new substations at Athipattu in Tiruvallur district, Kullappagoundanpatti in Theni district, Karampalayam in Thanjavur district. The upgradation of four sub-stations and the establishment of three new substations was executed at a cost of Rs 94.49 crore.
