Coimbatore: Recovery of a suspicious object, resembling an explosive, near the famous Bhadrakaliamman temple at Mettupalayam in Kerala created tension in the area, police said on Monday.

The object, an ice cream ball filled with some powder and a few steel balls inside, surfaced when the workers were digging the place last night to erect banner for the temple festival tomorrow, police said.

Police, on information, rushed to the spot and with the help of bomb detection and disposal squad took the custody of the object, they said.

Though it contained powder like substance and steel balls, police claimed it was not a bomb meant to execute explosion since it appeared very old.

It could be part of fireworks carried out on the temple recently or a year back, they said, adding, the object has been sent for testing.

What's your reaction?
