New Delhi: A serving colonel with the armed forces has given a notice to the Government of India for doing away with provisions for free rations to officers serving in non-conflict areas.
In his notice served under Section 80 of the Civil Procedure Code, Colonel Mukul Dev, currently serving as deputy Judge Advocate General, has contended that terms and conditions of the services spelt out clearly mentioned provision for free ration when he was commissioned in 1988.
"The decision of yours has violated basic terms and conditions of my services upon which I am employed," the notice which was sent on 1st of July read.
But now that it has been decided upon by the government beginning 1st, July this year that no free ration should be provided to the Officers of the Indian Armed Forces serving in Peace Area. Instead, these officers would now be given Rs.96.03 every month for purchasing ration.
In his notice to the Defence Secretary, the petitioner has contended that at the time of commissioning, the officer was not promised cash in lieu of ration.
The officer has sought that the order be withdrawn within 60 days of the issue of the notice, otherwise he will be constrained to move the court of law challenging the order.
