New Delhi: After facing debacle in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the Congress Parliamentary Party will elect its new chairperson on May 24. Congress President Sonia Gandhi is the current chairperson.
It is to be seen if Sonia will be replaced by some other person or she would conitue as in the post. A section of the Congress feels that there is a need to revamp the party after its poor performance in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
However, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi still enjoy huge support within the Congress party. Both had tendered to resign at the CWC meet, however, it was turned down by the members.
The Congress Parliamentary Party is a body, which constitutes sitting Lok Sabha Members of Parliament of the party. Congress has won just 44 seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, its worst ever performance.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Congress has dissolved 14 district committees, 140 block committees in the state in wake of the poor performance in the elections.
