GANGAVATHI: Cooperation movement, which gave new dimension to the economy of the nation, is gift of Britishers and this movement has played great role in preparing leaders for the nation,’ said former minister H K Patil. He was addressing a session, ‘Coopereation Movements in Karnataka’, which was organised as part of 78th ABKSS here on Saturday and remarked that no sector has served like cooperation in building the nation. He also emphasised on progress of cooperation sector in the state and alleged that Rs 80,000 crore belonging to town cooperative banks has been moved to government sector as a result of orders issued by Reserve Bank of India. “How can cooperative sector sustain such huge loss in today’s competitive world? This move has resulted in death of many poor farmers and labourers,” he opined.Chairman of Karnataka Cooperative Federation, G T Deve Gowda remarked, “Cooperation movements in the state have not been restricted to put demands before the government, but they have become messengers of principles of cooperation and successfully fulfilled demands of rural and poor people.” He also analysed that various cooperation societies have satisfied needs of consumers.
