Coronavirus Pandemic LIVE Updates: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today said he had received over 5 lakh suggestions from Delhiites about easing restrictions in the Capital once phase 3 of the lockdown ends on May 17. Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal said most people wanted public transport to open with restrictions, with almost everyone saying buses should start with mandatory social distancing along with some routes of the Delhi Metro.

The chief minister also said most people felt schools and colleges must remain closed and so should barber shops, salons and spas. However, there were some suggestions to open takeways for food. Kejriwal said a final call on lifting restrictions would be taken after a meeting with the L-G at 4pm.

The death toll due to Covid-19 rose to 2,549 and the number of cases climbed to 78,003 on Thursday, registering an increase of 134 deaths and 3,722 cases in the last 24 hours since Wednesday 8 am, according to the Union Health Ministry.

Migrant workers walking home amid the coronavirus lockdown have been involved in several accident across the country. Last week, 16 migrant workers were killed after a train ran over them while they were sleeping on the tracks in Maharashtra’s Aurangabad.

In a bid to ferry more migrants, the Railways this week decided to carry around 1,700 passengers on board its ‘Shramik Special’ trains instead of the current 1,200.

According to an order issued, the railway zones have also been asked to provide three stoppages in the destination state other than the final stop, at the request of the state governments.

It also said that the train capacity should be equal to the number of sleeper berths on the train. The ‘Shramik Special’ trains have 24 coaches with a capacity to carry 72 passengers in each coach.

The novel coronavirus has infected over 43 lakh people worldwide and led to more than 2,90,000 deaths.
