Corporation Council meet ends up in ruckus

The Corporation Council, which met here on Saturday, ended up in a ruckus over an unparliamentary reference made by Palayam Rajan of the ruling front during the discussion on a resolution moved by his partyman V S Padmakumar.

The resolution sought the government to withdraw the cases against the Mayor and LDF Councillors who took out a protest march to the Chief Minister’s residence over the Vilappilsala issue.

UDF leader Johnson Joseph, in his address, poked the Mayor and her colleagues for taking out the march to the Cliff House without knowing that Chandy was staying in Jagathy.

Rajan, while replying to Johnson, said that the Chief Minister was staying at Jagathy then like a ‘bandicoot in his cave’ till the bypoll results were out. UDF member G Harikumar kicked of a violent protest by throwing the cup and saucer on the floor and pushed down the pedestal fans in front of the Mayor’s podium. He was soon joined by his colleagues who gathered around the Mayor’s podium in protest against the remark against the Chief Minister. Some UDF members also threw away the mikes in protest. Though Rajan soon admitted that it was a slip of the tongue and said he repealed his comment, the UDF Councillors refused to budge to the Mayor’s request for peace. The Mayor who announced that the resolution was passed adjourned the meet.
