KOLLAM: Is it a crime for an eligible woman to love and marry a man below her social status or protocol.To the CPM leadership in Kottarakkara it is an unpardonable crime, an indiscipline which warrants immediate termination of her post.Mylom panchayat president Minimol's decision to marry her lover B Jayan, a driver of the same panchayat office, has become an ideological issue here.When the party came to know about the love affair, it advised the panchayat president, a post reserved for SC woman, to prolong their affair till the expiry of her tenure as president. However, it was difficult for them to prolong their marriage for five years. Minimol, 25, a graduate in Botany having TTC and BEd degree, is the only daughter of her parents Balan and Lalitha of Pinakkode Veedu, Pallikkal PO, Mylom. As the pressure mounted on her from the party, to avoid gossips, they conducted the marriage ceremony in the presence of a small gathering of friends at Sreekrishna temple, Anchal, on June 22. The Kottarakkara area committee of the party convened the joint meeting of the Kottathala and Mylom local committees the other day and asked Minimol to resign. But she refused.The party again on Friday asked her to resign immediately. She told 'Express' that she might submit her resignation on Monday.
