New Delhi: Baffled by a dull performance at the cricket World Cup, cricket fans in Ranchi blamed wicketkeeper-batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s long hair for the flop show.

Many young cricket lovers, who sported the ''Dhoni style'' until recently, are now changing it as a mark of protest. '' I have cut my hair short as I feel ashamed to follow the style of a loser,'' Vikas , a cricket fan was quoted by UNI.

Another local cricket fan Abhishek, who once missed an examination to watch Dhoni play pointed out: ''Earlier I used to love Dhoni's hair style but now I feel that a player should focus on his game rather than being concerned about his looks. Players are just like soldiers upholding the country's pride. How can we expect performance from a soldier who spends so much time on the maintenance of one's hairstyle.''

Coming down heavily on Dhoni's hairstyle another cricket fan told UNI, ''When India was shamelessly loosing the match against Sri Lanka, it was irritating to see Dhoni's advertisement at regular intervals. Now I don't get a good feeling from his hair style. I simply hate it.''

Angry cricket fans gathered at tea stalls and restaurants in Ranchi to address that Dhoni's hairstyle was the most critical factor behind his miserable show in the Caribbean.

Meanwhile, in view of the protests, security has been tightened around Dhoni's residence in Mecon colony and his new home's construction site in Harmu.

On March 18, agitated cricket fans demonstrated against the cricketer and demolished a boundry wall of his Harmu plot where he had planned to construct his 'dream house'.
