CT examinees manhandle inspection squad

CUTTACK: Members of an inspection squad were manhandled and locked inside Lalitgiri High School under Mahanga block for more than two hours by the examinees on Monday for disallowing malpractice. The squad was deputed by Board of Secondary Education (BSE) for inspecting the Certified Teachers’ (CT) Training examination here.According to reports, about  89 Gana Sikhyaks of Mahanga, Nischintakoili and Salepur blocks appeared in the CT examination at Lalitgiri High School on Monday. The squad comprising headmaster of Puri Police High School Radhakanta Das and retired headmaster of Purusottampur High School Biranchi Das arrived in the school only to find the examinees resorting to mass copying. The squad seized copy materials from three examinees and waited in the school till the examinations were over. However, all the examinees, who were denied an opportunity to cheat as they were appearing for the vital English subject, joined hands. They abused the squad members and prevented them from going out by closing the gates and mobbing outside. They did not even spare the car the squad travelled by. On receiving information, Mahanga police rushed to the spot and rescued the two-member-squad. Meanwhile, an FIR signed by all the examinees alleging molestation by the squad party has been filed in Mahanga police station.Suryakant Ray, IIC, Mahanga police station, who conducted a preliminary inquiry into the matter, however, said there was no evidence to support the allegations. BSE president Satyakam Mishra described the incident as most unfortunate. “The Examination Council of the Board would be meeting tomorrow to decide on the further course,” he said. Ironically, Mahanga is the constituency of School and Mass Education Minister Pratap Jena.
