CVC reviews probe by CBI, ED in 2G spectrum case
The CVC is reviewing the probe to remove any bottlenecks the agenices may be facing and expedite the investigations.

New Delhi: The Central Vigilance Commission has reviewed the probe being carried out by the CBI, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Income Tax department in the 2G spectrum allocation scam to remove any "bottlenecks" they may be facing and expedite the investigations.

Officials in the anti-corruption watchdog said the Central Vigilance Commissioner Pradeep Kumar recently met the officials of the three investigating agencies involved in the probe and examined all related documents. "The meeting was held with the concerned officials of CBI, ED and IT departments. They discussed various probe related matters," a source said.

He said the officials informed about certain bottlenecks in pursuing their probe inside the country and abroad which is "being looked into".

The Supreme Court had on February 2 asked the CBI to file status reports on its ongoing probe into the 2G spectrum allocation case to the CVC.

The court's decision had come while hearing a plea for setting up a Special Investigation Team to look into the 2G case. The bench had asked CBI to submit status reports on further investigation into the matter to the CVC, which will assist the court.

The Commission is understood to have asked all the three main probe agencies to expedite their probe. "We are closely monitoring the investigation. The officials are holding regular meetings to discuss hindrances and ways to conclude the investigations on priority basis," the official said.

The apex court had scrapped all the 122 telecom licenses issued by the government in 2008 to telecom firms.
