CWG: Court rejects Kalmadi's bail plea
The bail pleas of both Kalmadi and co-accused ASV Prasad were rejected by a special CBI court.

New Delhi: A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Monday dismissed the bail plea of former Commonwealth Games Organising Committee (OC) chief Suresh Kalmadi and co-accused ASV Prasad in a corruption case related to the mega sporting event.

Special judge Talwant Singh, while hearing Kalmadi's bail application, said allegations against him were of serious nature, and "he has caused loss to the government of India."

Prasad is a former OC joint director general.

The CBI on May 20 filed its first chargesheet in the case against Kalmadi and 10 others, describing him as a prime accused and the mastermind in the corruption case related to financial irregularities in awarding a Rs 141-crore contract for timing, scoring and result (TSR) system for the October 2010 event.

All the 11 accused, including two companies, have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for cheating, criminal conspiracy and forgery, and under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Kalmadi and Prasad were arrested April 26 and were sent to Tihar Jail.
