New Delhi: For the second time in the track and field events in the Commonwealth Games here, an athlete has protested after being disqualified in the women's 200m semifinals on Sunday and the final has been postponed for Monday.
Cyprus sprinter Eleni Artymata appealed to the jury after she was disqualified after winning the semifinals heat number one and that put her in the finals which was scheduled to be held later on Sunday.
But a terse press release issued by technical delegate Bill Bailey said the event has been postponed till 17:50 hrs on Monday due to "the results of semifinals being appealed to the jury".
It is learnt that Artymata, who ran in lane number five in the semifinals, had cut into the adjacent lane but the race officials did not see it and she was declared winner and finalist.
But she was disqualified after one of the athletes lodged an appeal and Cypriot counter-appealed to the jury which was yet to take a decision.
Three days ago, Australian 100m runner Sally Pearson was stoppped from collecting her gold just before the medal ceremony and then stripped of her medal after an appeal by England runner Laura Turner.
Sally was not informed that an appeal had been lodged and the jury was taking a decision on it.
Today also, there was no one with authority to provide any information and even the competition director could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
