Dam details in a book

Theni: Residents of Palarpatti here venerated the British Engineer Pennycuick who built the Mullaiperiyar Dam by releasing a book titled Mullaiperiyaru, Vaigai Anaigaludaya Pasumai Varalaru on Saturday. The event was organised at Palarpatti where the villagers released the book.

The book, penned by Professor Varghese Jayaraj of Uthamapalayam, traces the history of the dam from 100 years before its construction. It describes the relations between Kerala and Tamil Nadu from historical times to the present. The agreement between the erstwhile Madras Presidency and Travancore administration paving the way for lease of 999 years was published in full in the book, said O Andi, president of the Pennycuick rejuvenation forum.
