Dead man gets court summons in Himachal
Lagnoo Ram died in 1980 but a police complaint had been lodged against him and his daughter-in-law before his death.

Shimla: A man who died 26 years ago was asked to appear in a court in Shimla after summons were issued in his name over a land dispute, much to the surprise of his family.

Lagnoo Ram of Gehal village in Sirmaur district died in 1980 but a police complaint had been lodged against him and his daughter-in-law over a land dispute before his death, according to his family members.

Ram's daughter-in-law Murto Devi on Monday appeared in a court in Nahan town, about 150 km from Shimla, in connection with the case. She has now been asked to appear again November 30 along with proof of her father-in-law's death.

"The police report does not mention the death of the Lagnoo Ram. His family members will now have to provide proof of his death to the court," said Sumit Khimta, sub-divisional magistrate of Nahan.
