THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The delay in commencing the allotment process for the engineering colleges would be advantageous to the self-financing colleges. The suspicion about a move to help the managements is evident from the fact that the government did not take measures to expedite the case taking into account its urgency. The delay becomes crucial as a minimum of five days are to be given to students to submit their options before each allotment. The allotment list can be published only after that. Further, some time has also to be given for remitting the fees and for getting admitted to colleges. This means that every allotment needs at least 10 days' time. The government would have only 52 days' time to fill the seats beforethe stipulated time ofSeptember 22 to complete the three allotments to the selffinancing engineering colleges. However, Managements Association President A Younus Kunju attributed the delay to some cases pending in courts.
