The Ayush doctors, who were on an indefinite strike demanding amendment to the Drugs and Cosmetic Act of 1940 to allow them to use necessary allopathic drugs during emergencies, withdrew their strike ‘temporarily’ following the State Government’s assurance.
Health Minister Arvind Limbavali on Monday met the agitators and convinced them to call off their strike showing them a copy of a message from the Chief Minister’s Office which mentioned that the Government is looking into their demands.
The doctors withdrew their strike “temporarily” warning the government of more stirs, if it fails to respond at the earliest.
Following an Express Report on Monday, the Health Minister rushed to the Freedom Park, the venue of Ayush doctors’ protest and appealed them to return to work . “Doctors have to wait for patients, but patients should not wait for doctors. I have taken charge just now and I will bring changes. Strikes like this will affect a lot of patients. So, please take back your strike,” he said.
Assuring them that he would order all the District Health Officers and DCs to stop harassing and conducting raids on Ayush doctors, he said, “I will not allow any injustice to happen and I will tell officials in the rural parts not to harass these doctors.” The doctors withdrew protest “temporarily” and demanded a specific time frame from the government to issue the orders to this effect.
“We require assurance in written form. We will meet the minister next week to get everything in writing. If our demands are not met, then we will swing back with more zeal and protest,” Somashekhar Huddar, Organizing Secretary of the Ayush Federation of India, Karnataka chapter, said.
