Docufiction to create awareness on rat fever

KOZHIKODE: Not satisfied with the cleaning drives, awareness campaigns and distribution of preventive medicines in battling leptospirosis (rat fever) which claimed many lives in the state, doctors and MBBS students of Kozhikode Medical College Hospital will soon launch a docufiction to create awareness about the deadly disease.The 40-minute docufiction, which primarily dwells on preventive measures against the epidemic, will hit the screens on November 15. Dr Maya Sudhakar, assistant professor, Department of Microbiology, has scripted for the docufiction in which 25 students of the third year MBBS are the actors.The shooting of the docufiction will begin on October 26 at the Kozhikode General Hospital under the aegis of Prophylaxis Foundation, a doctor’s group in Kozhikode and Nehru Darsan, a cultural organisation in the city.“Self-medication and ignoring the symptoms worsen the disease. We are focusing on creating awareness among the people on the damages of self-treatment in the docufiction,” Dr Maya said.She confirmed that the number of persons approaching various hospitals seeking treatment for leptospirosis is going up.“Consumption of alcohol is one of the main reasons that leads to the uncontrolled spread of the disease,” she added.
