Mumbai: Underworld don Abu Salem has sent a legal notice to filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt for his forthcoming film Gangster, which is allegedly based on Salem's life.
Salem has mentioned in his notice that the film will affect his reputation and hamper the investigation process.
The notice was sent to Bhatt on Friday and he has been given a 24-hour ultimatum to reply or face legal consequences.
Salem's advocate Ashok Sarogi said on Saturday that the notice, which had been sent to Bhatt, stated that since cases against the don were under investigation, releasing a film may hamper the course of inquiry and also damage Salem's image.
Sarogi said if a reply to the notice was not received within the stipulated time, then appropriate legal action would be initiated against Mahesh Bhatt.
The notice has also asked the producer to hold the release of film till the verdict of the cases are out.
The film is slated for release next week. Mahesh Bhatt was not available for comments.
