A BMTC bus rammed into Delhi Public School bus, injuring 15 children. Traffic was thrown out of gear at N R Circle near Corporation office. The students fortunately escaped with minor injuries as the bus turned turtel.
A few police constables and passers-by who witnessed the accident, came to the rescue of the children and driver. They broke open the bus door and shifted them to a nearby hospital.
The Ulsoor Gate traffic police rushed to the spot and brought the traffic under control. According to the police, at 7.35 am the school bus (KA-03 D 6308) was going towards Shantinagar via OTC Road. A BMTC bus (KA-01 F-3564) which was coming from Hudson Circle to K R Market, rammed into the school bus, which careened.
Students and the driver, who sustained minor injuries were shifted to Sindhi Hospital in Sampangiramnagar.Gopinath M, an eyewitness said, “I was going to Majestic along with my friend when the accident took place. I noticed that an autorickshaw was passing in front of the school bus. Suddenly, the school bus slowed down, and the speeding BMTC bus rammed into it, which carrened. People who were on the spot rescued the students.”
Speaking to Express Rachappa, BMTC bus driver, said, “I was driving towards K R Market after stopping at the Corporation Circle. Since the traffic lights were not yet switched on, I proceeded. Meanwhile, the school bus suddenly slowed down in front of me. I tried to avoid the mishap and slightly brushed the vehicle. But, the driver lost control and the school bus careened.
The Sindhi Hospital authorities said the students were brought to the hospital in a police ambulance around 8 am and had simple abrasions. A few students had mild scratches on their noses and hands. They were treated as out-patients.The Ulsoor Gate traffic police have registered a case and the BMTC bus driver has been arrested for investigation.
