The festival of Durga Puja is celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm in the state of West Bengal. As the date for the festival comes closer, the preparations for the festivities have accelerated across the state. Local18 exclusively reports on an artist, whose incredible woodwork on trees has caught everyone’s attention. As per the information by Local18, the artist with the incredible skills is named Akshay Bhaskar, who is a resident of Agradip in Katwa-II block, located in East Bardhaman. Going by the reports, Akshay received an order from organisers of a puja event for Durga Puja celebrations, in Behala, Kolkata. So, the artist is currently busy creating a unique artwork on a tree trunk for the occasion. Akshay is said to breathe life to the dead trees with his special woodworking skills.
Conversing with Local18, the artist detailed what he is creating, “This artwork is being depicted on a lifeless tree. This tree will have the face of Goddess Durga and Lakshmi, Saraswati, Kartik, Ganesha.” According to him, the trees will be moved through a vehicle, which will depict how lifeless trees are brought back to life in new forms.
The tree Akshay is working on at the moment is around 12-feet tall and will have Goddess Durga’s face. It will also feature the children of the Goddess and several elements of the environment. He revealed further that the work will take him around a month to complete. It is a contract of Rs 1 lakh. According to Local18, Akshay Bhaskar is a very in demand artist, who has travelled across India. His work is also recognised in the countries of Canada and the USA. He stated, “I have been doing puja work for 17-18 years. I have worked abroad as well.” Puja work is like an addiction to him, the artist added.
