THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: DYFI state secretary T V Rajesh has said that the Centre and State Government were jointly squeezing the people of the state by hiking the price of fuel and electricity. Addressing a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram, Rajesh said that the hike in power tariff was unwarranted. DYFI would stage protests in front of the KSEB offices in the state on August 1, the day the new power tariff comes into existence. He slammed the Excise policy of the UDF Government and said that imposing restrictions on issuing bar licence to only star hotels would not alone curb the rate of alcohol consumption in the state. The effective approach would have been to cut down the availability of liquor in the state, he said.DYFI will organise ‘Save India Rally’ in all districts in the state on Independence Day on August 15 raising the slogan ‘imprison the corrupt and seize black money’. The rally will mark the DYFI’s campaign against corruption and black money. District presidents and secretaries will lead the rally in their respective districts.Rajesh asked the Youth Congress to make its stand clear on the reported secret decision of the State Government to increase the pension age by one year. The State Government had taken this decision while about 45,000 employees are to retire by the end of this financial year. The decision, if implemented will also put the future of the rankholders in the PSC list in jeopardy, he said. Rajesh also said that the various units of DYFI across the state had raised Rs 84 lakhs towards the Endosulfan Aid Fund. This amount will be used for providing medical help to the Endosulfan victims and also for the litigation initiated by the DYFI in the Supreme Court against the use of the pesticide in the country.
