New Delhi: Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday questioned the family of crystal dealer Suraj Prakash Mehra in connection with the probe into the AgustaWestland chopper scam.
Mehra was allegedly in touch with Michel and Danish national Christine Spliid when India was finalising the deal with Agusta for purchase of 12 choppers to ferry VVIPs. According to documents, Mehra's twin children are partners with Spliid and Michel in UK-based company Beetle Nut Home Ltd.
On Tuesday, CNN-News18 reported that Mehra was in regular touch with AgustaWestland middleman Christian Michel.
Immediately after the disclosure, ED summoned the nephew of Mehra, Karan Sethi, and questioned him at length.
CNN-News18 also tried to track down the names listed on the books of Mehra's Crystal and Lifestyle. It was found that almost all the addresses of shareholders were fake.
An officer went to his residence in Vasant Vihar and asked him to appear for questioning. Sethi is a minority share holder in Mehra's Crystal and Lifestyle, and in his statement he has said that the Danish girl whose role is being probed by investigative agencies, Mehra's girlfriend. He said they were in regular touch with Michel.
According to sources in ED, Mehra does not hold any property in India and was staying at a rented accommodation in Gurgaon. Spliid also used to stay in this house with Mehra, but the Danish national parted ways when investigative agencies started smelling a scam in the AgustaWestland deal, sources said.
The also sources said that Mehra almost packed up his business in India and settled in the United Kingdom. He recently opened a restaurant in the United Kingdom and visited India in the month of February to attend the engagement ceremony of his daughter Sonya Mehra.
